Everything is food!โ

When I say the word โ€˜nourishmentโ€™ what comes to mind? โ 

Food, right?โ โ € โ โ €

What if I told you the foods you eat are secondary to all the other things that โ€œfeedโ€ you.โ โ €

The Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) has a philosophy about foodโ€”itโ€™s that everything we consider as a source of nutrition is really just a secondary source of nourishment.โ 

This means there are other important aspects of our lives that feed us, which make up what we call โ€œprimary foods,โ€ such as your relationships, career, spirituality, and physical activity. These aspects of life serve as energy to feed optimal wellness, whereas food provides fuel for our bodies. Every day we take in experiences from life that fulfill us physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

These experiences provide nourishment, just like food provides energy. One cannot thrive if any aspect of being goes unfulfilled. The extent to which we are able to incorporate the things we hunger for determines how enjoyable and worthwhile our lives feel.

From touch to love, art to self-expression, and adventure to spirituality, there is no limit to that which nourishes different aspects of whoโ  we are.

What are you hungry for? What is something that is missing from your life? Intimacy?โ  Physical activity? Mental stimulation? โ โ € โ โ €
