If you’re new to the world of health coaching, you might be wondering how it differs from the type of care you receive at a typical doctor’s office. Here it is.
When you go to visit the doctor, you probably get between five and 15 minutes of actual face time with the physician or nurse practitioner. If you have a specific complaint, it’s pretty likely that any medication prescribed to you will be something to treat the symptom of the issue— not the root cause.
When you visit a Health Coach, expect to get lots of questions about every aspect of your life, not just about pains and symptoms. If you have a specific complaint, you can expect to put your focus toward the root of the cause while also treating symptoms. ⠀
For example, if your back hurts, a regular doctor might prescribe you pain medication, while a Health Coach may provide you with stretches to help relieve pain as well as a closer look at what foods you’re consuming that may be contributing to inflammation. ⠀
This method of incorporating a more whole-body approach to health care places more value on preventative care. ⠀
